just so you know , I posted this photo of the skink in reference to the episode I told you about in the blog post entitled...Life is just too busy.... this type is not poisonous but a black one with blue stripes is so be on the lookout.

skink lizard

thought you all might like to see a skink lizard.... here he is !

Life is just too Busy

At some point, I am hoping that life is going to allow me to do all the things I have put on the back burner. In my little fantasy world, I am a painter, a crafter, I have learned to use a jigsaw and created all the little gifts I see in the shops, I am a wonderful cook and have many dinners at my house for everyone to just pop in and eat ( like mom's house was). I could make you a long list of all the lists I have that are reminders of the things I need to do. Here is the problem. The days come and go and they get so filled up with paperwork, phone calls, household issues and calendar postings, weddings, funerals, celebrations ...all good stuff but taking all the time that I was going to write a book, get in shape at the gym, spend time with old friends...... The older I get the more I see that time is not on our side...life has way more to offer than we could ever make time for ...so I will just be thankful that every day is full and that Jim and I are healthy enough to enjoy them.
We are in the middle of choosing a financial plan for buying the new house. I never knew there were so many options for a loan or so many little ways they can charge you for the loans, there are PMI and closing costs, and required insurances and lawyers fees and interest rates and
termite bonds and house warranties and on and on and on..... I am about at the place where I want to sell it all and buy a small 2 bedroom condo with someone else doing the yard and having an amenities center . For what it costs to keep up a beach house ...even one that is paid for....I could rent the nicest house on the ocean for several weeks a year and still come out on top.
Now the windows they ordered for the beach house are inches too small so the top of the window area is open for all Skink lizards etc. to get inside. Of course, this has to be fixed....did I mention I got bitten by a skink lizard. Until that day, I had never heard of a skink lizard. They do bite if you step on them... I think I stepped on his tail.. I am sure the people 3 blocks away heard me scream. In that 2 seconds before I realized what was happening, I thought of the following.
A snake has bitten me... I am going to die...thank God I am saved...my grands won't remember me... Jim does not know anything about passwords, user id, or account numbers, who will clean my house before the big wake... then I realized it was not a snake but a one foot lizard who looked all slimy and nasty. Okay enough about that. UNPLEASANT TO SAY THE LEAST. So then came the other bad part.... the reactions to my announcement that I ahd been terrorized by a reptile...
Jim.... in comparison to my news of today.... my friend lost a grandchild....okay, Jim , you win hands down. kind of an unfair response in that not only does it take away any right of mine to get some sympathy and concern but I have to say, this is just totally unfair and uncalled for.
Amy... Oh my gosh, I am glad it was not me...because I would have died of fright.... I would have, I I I I I I
Kelly, What is a skank? Was she ugly? ( My first understanding from the guys present at the biting was that it was called a skank)
Cindy, after much laughter, where were you????
Okay, maybe this was not life threatening but I thought someone would understand the gravity of the situation...
Oh Bo......... lizards do not bite.... OH yes they do OKay???
Clary was the only one with an appropriate response, She texted me this..
Are you ok... do you need to go to the hospital... did it hurt?
I know who to call the next time I have a big deal happen to me.
So tomorrow is Saturday. We have a wedding and a retirement party and Sunday I am doing some stuff after church for my sister...so I will not be painting my original or creating any great craft or writing a best seller that day but Monday maybe........ OH Wait... Monday, I have to go wait on the electic guy again...still has not come..... and sign loan papers and call the orkin guy and the insurance people and drop my car at the shop...did I mention my car???
OKAY... my car issue...
Jim is washing the boat on the one trip we took out in the boat that did not require we buy a part or take it to the shop..Not free mind you since we pay a payment each month, and insurance and gas... but normal stuff.....he comes home happy in his great boat adventure and is washing the boat and puts the engine cover on the side of the boat ...it slides off onto the passenger door of my car and puts a $1000.00 dent in it. Add that to the cost of the boat. As I type , both propellers are at the shop from a run in with an oyster bed so the boat is OOO... which means out of order... the state it is in 3 /4 of the time. The one fourth is fun so I guess this is just what having a boat is about.
Okay enough of my musing. I will let you know when the electric job is actually done. Hopefully, I will be able to post that before summer is over.

Still waiting for the Electric guy !

So here I am still waiting for SCEG ! Now only to find out that all of my calls ( about 20 ) and all of the appts. were wasted on the wrong people. I finally get to the right department and am given red tape from here to Columbia for this removal of the box from the house..for a few hours by the way !!!!! Today I am heading back to the beach to continue my quest for service.
Mother's day was wonderful We spent the day at Cindy's house with family. Mom is doing well, she is having her birthday next week.....86 th.
Jim is on a bike trip with air force friends...yes for those of you who do not know... Biggs got a bike. Kawasaki 1500 classic cruiser. It is army green and black and he is having fun with it. I am never getting on it but I am glad he is enjoying it. So now he has a bike and a boat.... that should suffice for a mid-life crisis quencher , right?
We are planning for an October family reunion. Last year it was so good to see all the cousins and play music and picnic at Givhans Park. I am hoping this year all of my kids can come.
Short post today, I am late getting ready for my jaunt to the beach house. Kelly and Caleb are coming with me so that is fun. Hopefully, the electric guy thinks so.

The Roberts Family Theme Song

We loved this song...

Of course, we changed the words to "there are two sisters and a brother"... it remains to be seen if the words will work for the Resers. We won't know until about 6 weeks from now if we have a sister or a brother for Caleb and Sophia. We loved singing this song and still break out in it on occasion....wellllllll... Bo never sings.

UPDATES

Looking over my pages and realize that most of the information in the blogs is old. Here are a few updates. My cadets Alex and Sutton are now seniors. They have been unbelievably successful at The Citadel.Sutton , a business major is a gold star cadet, meaning his grades are 3.8 or higher and he has been given a commission in the Army that will take him into the Army at graduation with an officer rank. Sutton made the Summerall Guards which is an elite group of cadets who perform a silent drill for special occasions. This is not easy to get into...Congratulations Sutton ! Alex has also excelled in academics, deans list as an engineering major is a great accomplishment. Alex also made The President's List which is a list of cadets who are at the top of the game in many categories, personal , academic, military. He also has a Navy contract for a pilot slot at graduation. Both guys have received their rings (october) so they are on the home stretch to graduation now. I am so proud of them in all they have done but I will tell you the best part !!!!!!!!!Both Alex and Sutton have asked Jesus into their lives since coming to The Citadel. They love the Lord and both have been in regular worship and Sutton is involved in campus ministry. What a blessing. Love both of our cadets and will sure miss them when they take off to travel the world.Bo has opened his own law firm. You can view his website at
www.jrobertslawfirm.com If you need a good lawyer, call Bo. He is honest and will work hard for you.The grands are growing. Sophie has been in several plays with The Flowertown Players and excels in her schoolwork.Britton is an avid Scout and is doing well in school. He loves going to horse shows with Peter.Caleb is into karate. He loves to write stories and draw and still loves Superheroes.Olivia is talking up a storm and still loves her Grover. She loves books, babydolls and playing with her cousins.Joshua is a wild man. He is all about running, riding the four wheeler and jumping from the stairs. He is the family comedian.John Grady is cooing up a storm and is such a smiley boy. He is growing so fast and he is sooo cute !Nanny is enjoying her apartment at the Assisted living place. Her short term memory is not good but she remembers things from the past pretty well. She would love a visit from any of you any time.Jim is still teaching in the simulator for the C-17 for L2 communications on the air base. He also does quite a bit of public speaking taking the gospel to men's groups and churches all around the southeast.I am still leading the women's at my church .

Merry Christmas

December sneaked right up on us... What a beautiful fall we had. I was sad to take down all the fall decorations... they are my favorite colors. Thanksgiving was such a blessing as we had all our children here and 3 of our 5 grands. I count my blessings every day and at the top of the list is the fact that all of our children now live within minutes of us !! God knew I did not want to share !
Today is Dec. 1st and I am feeling a little overwhelmed at the task of turning the house into a Christmas backdrop. I always feel that way and it always gets done....so off I go to open the first of many crates and bins ! Merry Christmas Ya'll. Have a blessed one !

Truly an Empty Nest !

With Bo settling into Tampa and Amy moving to the farm and Kelly and her family growing and living a few miles away and now my cadets leaving for summer and my grandson leaving my care to go back to his stay at home mom... I am truly moving into the empty nest stage of life. While I will miss all of them and would bring them all back here if I could.... I do have a million plans for all my free time. I think I am excited about all my projects but I am facing the fact that I cannot use any of my motherhood duties as an excuse for not getting stuff done. Once June hits, I am going to have 24 hours a day to use as I please ...so watch out ... I am going to become painter, writer, interior designer, crafter , traveler , grandmother , extraordinaire... and most of all will have time to dote on a one of a kind husband who has generously and quietly sat on the back burner to all this crazy moving, wedding planning, and full time grandmothering this year.
My summer project begins with a Cadet porch pot that is overdue for a friend who purchased it at an auction a year ago. After that, I am headed to the beach house to start some serious decorating and updating .. hopefully I can use the summer to get the old house rentable. So many friends have asked us if we rent. I hope to get it rentable and get a friends and family rent brochure together by end of summer. While I do not want to rent to strangers, the renting of the house to close friends can help them by allowing a cheaper rent than they could get anywhere else ...thereby sharing our blessing... and can add to my funds to improve the place little by little to make it more enjoyable for everyone.
I do not see an end to that project so while that is going on... I will also be finishing some much needed painting and decor in our Ashebourough house. It is a lot of upkeep but a great place for our family to gather and enjoy life.
This summer, our family will grow as Kelly and Tom welcome Joshua James Reser in August ... I am really looking forward to a newborn. I just love that stage and while it is hard to believe I can love someone as much as I love the others.. I am sure that he will carve out his own little place in this world and be another unique , precious , and wonderful love in my life.
I hope the coming year will give us opportunities to spend time with lots of friends for surely friends and family determine the quality of life that we have... add that to good health and a vital and loving relationship with the Savior and it does not get any better... well maybe if I could lose 50 pounds... that would be the icing on the cake... and since my excuses for "no time to plan meals and exercise" are gone in a few weeks... maybe I will find my way to do just that......
